Gavin's
Self Portrait
|
Gavin
Lauchenauer is a lifelong Santa Monica resident, and has been involved
with photography as far back as he can remember.
Gavin
does not particularly relish talking about, or explaining his work.
There is certainly a great deal of precedence for this position about
letting the work speak for itself, Edward Hopper immediately comes to
mind.
For
Gavin, this reticence is born from conviction and confidence rooted in
a great deal of experience: experience which includes all facets of
photography form shooting pictures to darkroom processing, from
creative and experimental presentation of his work-including frame
making Ðto presently experimenting with the manipulation of
digital imagery.
Aside
from his personal work Gavin has also worked as an assistant to
commercial photographers on shoots all over the world. Many appear in Architectural
Digest. This extensive travel
has enabled Gavin to see first-hand a great variety of exotic flora,
which is one of his passions.
Gavin
Lauchenauer is a photographer who also happens to be interested in
craft of all kinds, and experiments with combining his knowledge from
varied disciplines to create pieces that go beyond photography. The
impetus for these forays into this world of creation is not money or
approval from others- though he, like other artists, is not opposed to
such rewards- but rather a simple need to create, and quench his own
curiosity.
It
is a refreshing approach that also happens to be timeless.
